A sitemap is what Google uses to "crawl" your website. It's one of the most important parts of SEO. Google will crawl without a sitemap, most times but doing it yourself ensures you're always aware of what's going on.
There's no use in optimizing your sitemap if you don't read your data and use it to see where you can improve, what folks are using to search for you, etc.
Hotjar is a resource that is near and dear to me. It records "heat maps" of folks interacting with your site. You can see where they spend the most time, where they get stuck, and when they leave your website. It's a BEAST of a tool.
